The Joomla version 3.0 is the first big release in the time based cycle. This concept was adopted in January, 2011. The scheduled release of Joomla’s versions is a great challenge for the developer team as it has to come up with a latest version after every six months on the scheduled date. The version 3.0 is the first prominent release in this cycle.
One of the most important things about this version is that it is not launched for every user out there. The previous version i.e. 2.5 was an LTS version, that is, Long term support version. Version 3.0 is not an LTS version so people who are using version 2.5 would not need to update to version 3.0 but will wait for the release of an LTS version i.e. 3.5 that is expected to get launched in year 2014. The version 3.5 I launched under STS track and is suitable for those users who are in need of latest features and want their site to be on an edge. Users who install version 3.0 will have to update their sites to upcoming versions 3.1 and 3.5.
One of the most striking changes that have been seen in Joomla version 3.0 is the thorough remodification of the administrator interface.
As majority of the people now surf internet over the mobile devices, developers of Joomla strived to bring up a mobile friendly version of Joomla. The version 3.0 is extremely compatible with mobile devices. Developers have incorporated Twitter Bootstrap framework that is a highly beneficial tool kit for creating and designing web applications and websites. The Bootstrap framework enables Joomla 3.0 to deliver a mobile compatible experience.
The incorporation of twitter Bootstrap framework has caused a change in the HTML markup for some of the templates and extensions. Templates and extensions for version 2.5 will need alteration to comply with the Joomla version 3.0. These alteration procedures are said to very quick and simple. .the alteration process is also backwards compatible and the new templates and extensions will work on both versions 2.5 and version 3.0.
The Joomla version 3.0 would need a PHP 5.3 and MySQL 5.1. It will continue supporting Microsoft SQL server with additional PostgreSQL support. The version 3.0 will ditch old MySQL support and will need the new MySQL driver. Further, INNODB engine incorporated in MySQL will be needed. These alterations will not cause any kind of trouble for hosts offering lasts software. If you are in doubt about any of the changes or requirements consult a reliable developer for additional advice.
