The amount of data isn\u2019t important but what organizations do with the data that matters the most. Big data can be analyzed for insights that will eventually lead to better decisions and strategic business moves.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Though the term \u201cbig data\u201d is relatively new but the act of gathering and storing large amounts of information for eventual analysis is ages old. The concept of \u201cbig data\u201d gained momentum in the early 2000s when industry analyst Doug Laney articulated the now-mainstream definition of big data as the three Vs mentioned below.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><b>Volume.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Organizations collect data from various sources, including business transactions, social media and information from sensor or machine-to-machine data.
