Additionally, visually challenged people can use screen readers to find out what the alt text of an image is, so that they understand what the image is about. If you are unable to think of a suitable alt text, you can allow Instagram to do so with the help of object recognition technology.
However, if you want to do so yourself manually, you need to click on ‘Advanced Settings’ after uploading a photo on Instagram. Select the option of “Alt Text”. Type in the alt text that you want entered, and click on ‘Done”. You can enter alt texts to existing images as well. To do that, you have to click on the three-dot menu button. At the bottom right, you will find the option ‘Add Alt Text’. Again, type in the alt text you want and click ‘Done’.
